The ingredients needed to make Girmit:

  1. Prepare 1 tbsp of Oil.
  2. Provide 1/2 tsp of Mustard seeds.
  3. You need 1/4 tsp of Cumin seeds.
  4. Provide 5-6 of Curry leaves.
  5. Get 1 of Onion finely chopped.
  6. Use 2 of Green chilli.
  7. Get 1/4 tsp of Turmeric powder.
  8. Get 1/2 tsp of Salt.
  9. Get 1/2 tsp of Roasted gram powder.
  10. Provide 1 tsp of Tamarind paste.
  11. Take 1/2 tsp of Jaggery.
  12. Use of For serving:.
  13. Provide 2 cups of Puffed rice or churumuri.
  14. You need 1-2 of Onion.
  15. Get 2 tsp of Roasted gram powder/ pottukadalai powder.
  16. Get 1-2 of Tomato.
  17. You need 1 tbsp of Coriander leaves.
  18. Use 14 cup of Sev.

Steps to make Girmit:

  1. Grind roasted gram/ pottukadala into a fine powder and keep it aside..
  2. Heat oil in a pan. Splutter mustard seeds..
  3. Add jeera or cumin seeds and a few curry leaves. Saute well..
  4. Add onion and finely chopped green chilies. Saute well until the onion turns golden brown..
  5. Add turmeric powder and salt..
  6. Add tamarind paste and jaggery. Saute well and cook for few mins till the oil starts floating..
  7. Add 1 tbsp of pottukadala powder and turn off the flame..
  8. Girmit masala is ready..
  9. Serving the Girmit: In a large mixing bowl, add pori/puffed ric.
  10. Add the girmit masala, finely chopped onion, tomato, roasted gram powder, coriander leaves and mix well..
  11. Transfer this to a plate and garnish with some sev and coriander leaves..
  12. Serve immediately..
