It was important that our platform bed have legs so that we could take advantage of that precious storage space. And you are done.
You could definitely modify it to make a smaller frame also.
Build a king size platform bed. Place the bed against the wall and put the mattress. The first step of the woodworking project is to build the headboard for the king platform bed. Across the foot of the bed between the side rails install the end rails so it overhangs by around ½ inch at the end of the bed.
After the carcasses are finished with the dividers I cut the back from 12mm plywood. At the foot of the bed we have a 1-12 overhang and a 4-12 post. This does not get installed until the bed is.
I start by making the drawer carcasses out of 18mm plywood. When making your measurements for a platform bed the inner dimensions of your bed frame need to be the same dimensions as your bed. As you can easily notice in the diagram we recommend you to build the legs and the horizontal supports out of 22 lumber.
Cut the 2×4 to length. We know we dont need a support for the whole length of the bed rail because of the posts. Our inner frame is 79 inches wide by 75 inches long and our slats are cut to 79 inches.
Consider things such as baseboard heaters outlets and the thickness of your mattress when deciding how tall to build the platform. I figured I would build it mainly out of baltic birch plywood and Mdf. Glue the inside end of the 24 that will be pressed up against the frame.
Cut the boards to the correct size for the base and arrange them on their edges in. Rest the slats on its side supports and place the platform on said slats. Our platform bed frame plans are designed for a king size mattress but you can adjust them as to fit your needs.
On the headboard side we dont have the overhang just the 4-12 post. We built this for a doublefull size bed and the standard dimensions are 53 x 74. Use 26 lumber for the support beam.
That is how to build a king size platform bed. Clamp the 24 to the frame and get to screwing. Drill pocket holes at top of the legs and insert 2 12 screws into the top support.
When building the frame you have to make pilot holes and then insert the screws otherwise the wood would split. The plywood needs no edging and the parts dont require a finish. Cut the side supports K from 2 by 4s the slats L from 1 by 4s and the platform M from 34-inch-thick plywood Project Diagram Cutting Diagram and Cutting List. For a twin-size bed you dont need slats under the platform.
Build the base of the platform using either 2-by-8- or 2-by-10-foot boards. 2 screws on top flip it over and 1 screw underneath in the center. Make sure you measure your bed to get the correct dimensions as not all king-sized beds are exactly the same.
Measure the halfway point between the two side frames and attach your center 24 support.
